SVCTE Sports Medicine Team Takes Third Out of 115 Teams at Cal-HOSA Competition
Twenty-five Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) students competed at the 2023 Cal-HOSA State Leadership event from March 23 to 25 in Sacramento, CA among 4,200 students.
Of the 25 who qualified for the State event, 10 students made it to round two of their events. Of those 10, a team of five Sports Medicine students took home third out of 115 teams in the Anatomage competition. The touch-screen equipment provides a realistic life-sized 3D anatomy system including muscular, digestive, respiratory, skeletal, and the heart as if the students were working with an actual cadaver. It allows them to conduct virtual dissections on images of real-life bodies that were donated for science.
The winning Anatomotage team included:
-
Phoenix Fontecha, Evergreen High School, East Side Union High School District
-
Eric Huynh, Silver Creek High School, East Side Union High School District
-
Marco Lozano, San Jose High School, San Jose Unified School District
-
Skyden Shugan, Mt. Pleasant High School, East Side Union High School District
-
Kevin Truong, Piedmont High School, East Side Union High School District
“Our students demonstrated business professionalism and represented SVCTE programs with the utmost respect,” said Maggie Kasberger, HOSA advisor and SVCTE Sports Medicine and Kinesiology teacher. “I cannot begin to explain how proud I was to be a part of this opportunity to represent our school and programs that each of you have put so much time and energy into.”
To qualify, the students participated in regional testing, which included seminars, competitions, and other activities to engage students and expand on leadership skills.
