Eleven SVCTE Students Place in SkillsUSA State Competition; Two Advance to National Conference in June
Forty-three Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) students participated in the SkillsUSA State Competition that was held in Ontario, Calif. from April 13 to 16 after advancing during the Regional Leadership and Skills Competition held in March. They were among 3,000 students from across California who showcased their technical skills, joining various competitive events from the following programs: Auto Body Refinishing, Culinary, Dental Assisting, Mechatronics Engineering, Medical Assisting, and Metals Technology.
Eleven students medaled, with two students winning gold, six students winning silver, and three students winning bronze. Gold medal winners Seojin Lee from Prospect High School in Campbell Union High School District and Alana Lin from Del Mar High School in Campbell Union High School District will go on to SkillsUSA’s annual National Leadership & Skills Conference this June in Atlanta, Ga.
Participating students represented a variety of partner school districts, including Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District, Milpitas Unified High School District, San Jose Unified School District, and Santa Clara Unified School District.

The SkillsUSA California Region 1 serves Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties.
To support SkillsUSA, SVCTE will host its 17th Annual Custom and Classic Car Show on Friday, May 12. Classic car clubs, collectors, and enthusiasts are invited to attend the event from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Spectator admission to the car show is free, with limited parking. Exhibitor passes are a $20 tax-deductible donation/fee per car, truck, motorcycle, or bicycle at the SVCTE auto show. Pre-registration is not available. Exhibitors will pay at the gate on the night of the event. The event is held at the SVCTE campus located at 760 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose, CA 95136.
