Hello,
February is the nationwide celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®, which raises awareness of the role of career and technical education in readying students for college and career success. I love CTE Month because it illustrates the positive difference CTE makes in the lives of its students. Our students move on to make a huge difference in the community and build successful careers for themselves.
CTE is the pathway for students entering the workforce after graduation and those planning to attend trade schools, two-year colleges for certificate programs and four-year universities. CTE is the stepping stone to higher education. Students often hold jobs in their field while attending college.
These statistics ground me as I continue advocating for the work happening here with legislators, businesses, and potential partners. As our world continues to grow and transform, trade jobs are becoming more in demand than ever before. In fact, sectors are seeing worker shortages. Often businesses in the area reach out to our teachers directly, seeking students to fill those voids.
Metropolitan Education District has been around for more than 100 years, and we are increasingly more imperative for the success of not just our students but our community at large. Please join me in reflecting on the difference career and technical education makes today, and every day!

SVAE Students Lead CTE Celebration
|
|
|
Silicon Valley Adult Education’s student leadership committee held a very successful CTE event on February 16, attended by staff and students alike. The event celebrated all things CTE, with educational information and resources. SVAE students from Dr. Safari's Medical Assisting class took blood pressure readings. There was also corn hole, spin the wheel, and more! The turnout was magnificent and everyone had fun. Thank you to the SVAE student leadership committee.

LA Fashion Week to Feature Work of SVCTE Alumni Isabelle Leong
|
|
|
Former SVCTE center fashion design student Isabelle Leong was recently discovered by The Fashion & Music Conference and selected to showcase her SHEIN collection clothing designs on the runway of Los Angeles Fashion Week 2023 in March.

MetroED Featured in The Milpitas Beat
|
|
|
"Touring the facilities, one cannot help but feel a sense of awe. Being guided through each building was like unwrapping a new present. Each classroom was fully equipped to immerse every student in the subject at hand.
'This program is an eye-opener,' Kobe Tran, a senior at Milpitas High School (MHS), told The Beat. 'It provides insight toward a pathway that we may or may not be interested in.'"

TESLA Hosts Workshop for SVCTE Students

|
TESLA representatives held a workshop for SVCTE’s Automotive Services, Auto Body Repair, Auto Body Refinishing, and Mechatronics Engineering programs. Alexis Brunner, senior recruiter for Tech Trainee for NorCal, and David Stern, service manager for Sunnyvale, shared information about the company, technology, and research and development before delving in how to prepare for a career, work for, and what jobs are available with Tesla. The students also had the chance to see and sit in a Model X. View more photos.

College and Career Fair Boosts Over 40 Partners

Silicon Valley Career Technical Education and Silicon Valley Adult Education students had the opportunity to make meaningful connections at a College and Career Fair on Feb. 17 with 40 registered partners, including Del Grande Dealer Group, Kaiser Permanente Thrive, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Tesla, City of San Jose and so many more. Extended Learning Program a Huge Success
|
|
|
SVCTE’s Extended Learning program, running January 10 - June 1, 2023, Monday - Thursday, 4:15 - 6:15 p.m. has been a huge success! Around 130 students in 10 through 12 grades are attending Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Careers, Veterinary Science, Medical Science/Health Careers, Fashion Design and Textile Art, and Cybersecurity UC “g” college prep elective programs to prepare for their college and career readiness. In Dental Assisting
SVCTE’s Dental Assisting program with Suzie Dault is quite literally leaving a lasting impression on her students. Students recently rotated through a series of different tasks, including setting up for taking x-rays, taking alginate impressions, pouring Egyptian stone for molds, and learning the proper sterilization process. They are gaining real-world experiences, preparing them for their internships, which kicked off Feb. 16. In Auto Body Repair

SVAE Students Write Seasonal Poems
Silicon Valley Adult Education English students in Marion Clark’s English as a Second Language class have written seasonal poems. We are proud to showcase the first submission for Winter.
Winter, Franck Compoint
Winter is white and immaculate
It tastes like hot wine with cinnamon flavor: warm, fruity and spicy
It sounds like runoff of snow melting under the first rays of the day
It smells like chestnuts roasted over a wood fire, smokey and woody
It looks like a blank board waiting for the colors of spring
It makes me quiet and serene in communion with the silence of nature
