Greetings!
We are thrilled by how eager SVCTE and SVAE students were for the 2021-2022 school year to begin because our campus ignites a certain spark and passion in each student.
SVCTE opened its doors on August 11 to 1,200 new and returning students, and SVAE opened its doors on August 10 with over 358 students. It is always a pleasure to see the first group of students step onto campus to gain invaluable education, and hands-on, life-changing experiences.
This year, at MetroED, there is no plan for Distance Learning or Independent Study, all students are offered in-person instruction. We are reimagining, rebuilding, and restarting school with restorative practices and equity at the center of what we do. Our goal is to support the whole child and whole employee by making our schools safe emotionally and physically for all students and staff.

Assemblymember Alex Lee Tours SVCTE
|
|
Lee, a supporter of CTE, knows the importance of assisting students in building foundational skills and gaining hands-on experience. He also understands that developing the basis for high school students’ future in postsecondary education and careers begins with top-rated programs like those at SVCTE. Students enrolled in CTE programs challenge themselves and are learning advanced and highly technical subjects that will help them fill current in-demand jobs.
The tour highlight was seeing students in action in the Electrical, Construction, & HVAC, Veterinarian, Medical Assisting, & Dental Assisting, Video Production, Animation & Fashion Design, Fire Science/First Responder, Law Enforcement, Metals, Truck Mechanics, & Automotive Services, and Auto Body Refinishing & Auto Body Repair programs.

Dorothy has over 25 years of experience in Fiscal Management services in school districts and the county office of education. Dorothy has trained district and site staff, created multiple-year budgets for the Governing Board, led the automation of fiscal and facilities systems. In addition, she has served as the co-chair for Budget Advisory, Bond Oversight, Parcel Tax, and Health and Welfare Committees.

Thomas has 20 years of experience in the Information Technology field. He has experience in all aspects of IT functions. Thomas grew up locally, attended the East Side Union High School district, and enjoys solving problems. He believes in the mission of the training we provide for students and looks forward to giving back to our community by working in the field of education.

Connecting and engaging with the foundation and its members is now easier. Since 1993, the Foundation has supported MetroED in its mission to prepare high school and adult learners for success in both college and careers. The MetroED Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports MetroED’s very deserving students, faculty, and staff.

We are actively seeking a new President, a Fundraising Committee Chairperson, and volunteers to actively serve on our PR/Brand Awareness, Recognition, Advocates/Alumni, and Circle of Influence committees. Experience is helpful but not required. Knowledge or work experience in the areas taught at MetroED would be helpful, as would experience working with nonprofits or in the education field. All board members are volunteers with a passion for MetroED’s Career Technical Education programs and workforce development.
We’ve earned the GuideStar Gold Seal of Transparency and Membership in the Global Giving, Benevity, and AmazonSmile communities. We are quickly evolving to raise awareness of Career Technical Education at MetroED and unite financial and community resources to provide scholarships to deserving students who would otherwise be unable to attend MetroED. We also plan to re-unite the over 45,000 MetroED alumni and organize their support for our mission.

SVAE Medical Assisting Student Finds Success
|
|
Mount Pleasant High School 2011 Alumni Destiny Trevino and Adult Education Medical Assisting Student
When Destiny first began the program in 2019, she worked in a local grocery store but had visions of having a career in the medical field. Destiny recalls the first month of the program being the toughest. She explained that she struggled with balancing life, school, and work, yet she never gave up on making her dreams become a reality. Destiny said, "I have learned to never doubt myself and keep striving because I am doing what I thought I could never do and it all is paying off."
Destiny shared, “the program has given me confidence, skills, and tools for success. I have learned a lot at SVAE from taking vitals, giving injections, and so much more. I have enjoyed learning and found something I really love and am so passionate about it.”
Destiny attributes her success to surrounding herself with people that keep her motivated including her instructor Dr. Nazilla Safari who pushes and supports her and all students to do their very best.
