San Jose, CA: The Metropolitan Education District (MetroED) Governing Board is pleased to announce that distinguished educator Erin O'Neill has been appointed as the new superintendent, effective July 1, 2024

Erin’s career spans 25-plus years in public education. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Drake University, Des Moines.

Most recently, she served as Interim Dean of Career and Technical Education for Woodland Community College after working as Executive Director - of College, Career, & Life Readiness at the Peninsula School District, Director of Career and College Readiness of the Seattle Public Schools, and in the Des Moines, IA area as a principal, administrator, instructor of professional development, coordinator, dean of students and as an instructor of business education & web page design. Erin is also a former SkillsUSA and DECA advisor.

“I am honored and delighted to be selected as the new superintendent of MetroED. Our programs, led by passionate experts, foster student aspirations, knowledge, and skills. These experiences set our students apart. I can’t wait to collaborate with our students, staff, and community partners to continue advancing excellence and innovation!” said Erin.

Erin's selection followed an extensive search process conducted by HYA Associates, with input from stakeholders across the district. The board expressed confidence in Erin’s ability to lead MetroED.

"We are excited to welcome Erin to MetroED. She brings a wealth of experience and will continue to foster relationships to create a successful, innovative learning environment that aligns seamlessly with MetroED's mission and vision to prepare high school and adult students for future college and career success," said Board President Katherine Tseng.

Erin will officially assume her duties as Superintendent on July 1, 2024, succeeding Superintendent Alyssa Lynch, who has served with distinction for 11 years. Lynch plans to work through June, so there is time for an overlap to facilitate a smooth transition.
