Greetings,

Metropolitan Education District known as MetroED operates Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) and Silicon Valley Adult Education (SVAE) making them leaders of career education in Silicon Valley. MetroED serves over 3,500 students each year by providing state-of-the-art Career Technical Education (CTE) and adult education programs. Silicon Valley Career Technical Education proudly serves six school districts: East Side Union High School District, Campbell Union High School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Milpitas Unified High School District, Santa Clara Unified School District and San Jose Unified School District.

Career Technical Education (CTE) has a long and rich history in the United States. Today’s CTE has evolved from a limited number of vocational programs available at the turn of the 20th century into a broad system that encompasses a variety of challenging fields in diverse subject areas which are constantly evolving due to the changing global economy.

Today’s CTE provides students:

  • Academic subject matter taught with relevance to the real world,
  • Employability skills, from job-related skills to workplace ethics,
  • Career pathways that link secondary and postsecondary education,
  • Skill upgrades and career advancement.

Today’s Adult Education provides students:

  • Convenient, accessible, and flexible schedules to meet the needs of adults,
  • Courses in adult basic skills, math, reading, and writing,
  • English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) & GED Preparation classes,
  • Career Technical (Vocational) certificate programs.

In Santa Clara County, over 30,000 students are enrolled in CTE and adult education programs. A person with a CTE-related associate degree or credential can earn between $5,000 and $15,000 more a year than a person with a humanities or social sciences associate degree. Those with credentials in high-demand fields such as healthcare can average almost $20,000 more a year. CTE works to increase graduation rates helping to close the achievement gap: The average graduation rate for students concentrating in CTE programs is 90% compared with a national graduation rate of 75%.

The more students participate in career technical student organization activities, the higher their academic motivation, academic engagement, grades, career self-efficacy, and college aspirations. Experts project 47 million job openings in the decade ending 2018.

SVCTE and SVAE programs are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges(WASC). All programs are overseen by the Governing Board made up of board members from each of the six participating districts. In closing, MetroED is committed to serving our community by providing high-quality education that prepares students for success. Tours of the center are provided year-round for groups, educators, legislators, business partners, and students. Please come to see us, to set up a tour contact us at 408-723-6464. We look forward to serving you.
