FORENSIC SCIENCE (UC "d")

Develop the knowledge and training related to forensics while exploring the procedures to solve crimes. Topics include investigating crime scenes and laboratory safety rules and regulations. Students will be introduced to over 30 sciences that can be chosen as a specialization for future education. The class focuses on academic, technical skills, and employability practices. Students will develop personal and professional skills in the classroom that will transfer to the workplace:
- Appreciation for the importance of applied ethics and maintaining standards
- Crime scene analysis from contamination controls through identification, documentation, and collection of evidence
- Applied systematic planning and searching of crime scenes
- Laboratory methodology for physical, chemical, and biological analysis of evidence
- Preparation of initial and final reports to meet judicial requirements
- Identification of specialty forensic resources available

About the Instructor
Ashley Auguste has more than 10 years of experience studying and working in the fields of criminal justice and forensic science. After earning her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University, Auguste continued her learning both experientially, while working in law enforcement, and academically while working towards her Ph.D. in education from Illinois State University. Some of her favorite activities is backpacking with family and riding her motorcycle.
