NURSING CAREERS (UC “d” or “g”)

This course prepares students to work in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities (SNF), hospice, assisted living facilities and other related health settings. In addition to employability and professionalism, this course will include: medical terminology, medical/surgical asepsis, health and disease, anatomy and physiology, assessment and diagnosis, patient care skills and procedures, CPR certification, rehabilitative nursing, long term care and resident care, Phlebotomy, ECG and medication administration. leading into Nursing Pathway careers, students who satisfactorily complete the two semester course may qualify to obtain an SVCTE certificate of completion and be eligible to sit for the National Patient Care technician/assistant (CPCT/A), Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), and ECG Technician (CET) Certification exams.

About the Instructor
Tamie Garcia is a Hollister native who has been in the medical field for 13 years. She started her medical career with a CTE course in Phlebotomy and worked in a hospital as a Phlebotomist before being promoted to Laboratory Technician. After that, she trained in house as a Pathology Technician under Pathologist Dr. Jameson at Natividad Medical Center, a Level II Trauma center in Salinas, Calif. Ms. Garcia is also a Hemodialysis Technician and Patient Care Technician. She started as a Vocational Lab Assistant at SVAE while working on her license to teach CTE and then accepted a position at SVCTE. Ms. Garcia brings her 13 years of hospital and clinical outpatient experience to SVCTE to help future nurses and laboratory personnel start their careers. She is also passionate about her personal mission to ensure MetroED students can get a high-quality education for well-paying entry-level jobs in the medical field.
